Copadichromis likomae "Kande"

Initially Copadichromis likomae was described only from Likoma Island however they can be found in entire Lake Malawi. This species forms large schools in the open water but in mating season you can usually find them in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. Between Makanjila Point and Gome is living the comparable not yet described species Copadichromis sp."likomae masinje", this one is living most of the times on depths of more than 25 meters while Copadichromis likomae is living in shallower water. These examples of Copadichromis likomae were caught in the neighbourhood of Kande Island.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 15 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 17 cm, females grow to about 13 cm.

Copadichromis likomae is mainly living in open water where it`s feeding itself with plankton.
You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space.

In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
